There's a legend that the draconian colonies keep to... Once, when the dragons and Loxarms had begun anew, there were three children to the first emperor.

The first child, a son, single handedly defeated a gang of raiders who threatened to destroy the new colonies. He was crowned a hero and became a grand military general, leading his troops to many a victory. Every first born to the draconian royals shall be trained in the workings of battle and military to honor the first son's career.

The second son preferred his books. Immersing himself in literature, he was upheld as the greatest mind of the time. Then, a rogue monster swarmed the slightly stronger, but still fragile, colonies. This monster demanded tribute every month, and finally the second son took it upon himself to place an end to his people's suffering. Taking only his wits about him, he arrived at the monster's lair and challenged it to a contest. Should the second son emerge victorious, the creature shall be banished from the draconian colonies forever. The monster crowed at this philosophy, and agreed. The challenge was simple, an exchange of riddles. The monster knew far fewer than the scholarly second son, and was banished close to immediately after the challenge had begun. In honor of the second son's wisdom, the second born of royalty must be educated in the workings of sciences and literature.

The final child, a girl, was very inquisitive. She sought to answer life's burning questions. She, like her older brother, studied the workings of religion and mythology, but, unlike her brother, left home to teach the world of her discoveries. She gained many followers and finally founded the Draconian Monasteries so that she may teach young minds and learn from her gods till her death. Traditionally, the third born is sent away to the very same monasteries the daughter founded to learn the workings their ancestor founded.
Something I wrote, a slight explanation and something to delve farther into the draconian culture.

Q: What is a Loxarm??
A: Loxarm's are reptillian creatures, cousins of dragons and of certain species of black and blue elves (more on those later). They have a humanoid shape and often times have tails, claws, scales and other kinds of appendages associated with reptiles. Raruki, Ilieta, etc. are part Loxarm, part dragon. Yes, Dragons and Loxarms can mate, they're rather close to each other in the animal kingdom.

Q: If Dragons and Loxarms are so similiar, why would they have to "begin anew"?
A: Loxarms were a rather violent society, and looked at the calm, intelligent dragons as they did many other things. A nuisance. The Loxarms brash nature and hard headedness led to a ton of tension between the cousin races. Both sides got sick of it, and war erupted. Finally deciding both sides would never profit from slaying each other, the societies offered peace offerings, eventualy integrating societies. Petty arguments forgotten over many years, pure blood hot-headed Loxarms are very rare, having changed and learned much from their quieter and more serpentine cousins.
